He set off to sail his ship
the sisal rope hung a magical Lantern
For on moonless nights
the Lantern would glare like the sun
He sailed many days
and crew minded their captain
for only the captain knew
the secrete of the magical Lantern
There were days of wind
and salt filled the air
Yet there was often
a pod off dolphins
off the port bow
cheering crew and captain
For days at sea
seemed long
and sometimes storms lingered
Yet, even in storms
the captain's Lantern
would still glare like the sun
It is said on the docks:
"That if you are a crew member
on a ship with such a Lantern,
Your life will be well lived
and your path be set right."
Remember well the captain
is as good as the crew
and a Lantern well shines
for all to see
on moonless nights.
